What We Believe
The Nicene Creed
As Anglicans, what we believe can best be summarized by the Nicene Creed:

I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible; And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of his Father before all worlds,
God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father; by whom all things were made; who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven,
and was incarnate by the Holy Ghost of the Virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; he suffered and was buried; and the third day he rose again according to the Scriptures, and ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of the Father; and he shall come again, with glory, to judge both the quick and the dead; whose kingdom shall have no end.
And I believe in the Holy Ghost the Lord, and Giver of Life, who proceedeth from the Father and the Son;
who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified; who spake by the Prophets.
And I believe one holy Catholic and Apostolic Church; I acknowledge one Baptism for the remission of sins;
and I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.
Baptismal Covenant
Our Christian Faith is not just what we believe

It is a whole way of life passed down from Christ and His Apostles to the present day, that enables us to share in the Life of God Himself, to become more like Christ and to participate in His ongoing work in the world.
This way of life is best laid out in our Baptismal Covenant.

At our Baptism, we pledge to:
-Renounce our allegiance to the World, the Flesh, and the Devil
-Give our allegiance completely to Christ as Lord
We express that faith and loyalty to God the Holy Trinity:
-
by continuing in the Apostolic Church’s 3-fold pattern of life: Personal devotion through the holy scriptures, active participation in the Eucharist, and the prayers of the Daily Office (Acts 2:42)
-
by continual repentance from our sin;
-
by commending the faith that is in us to others by word and example;
-
by persevering in works of mercy for Christ’s sake;
-
and by working and praying for the just order of the Kingdom of God in our wider community.
Come and see how this Apostolic way of life is embodied here at St. James!
