Our Wonderful Wednesday program this week is a good old-fashioned Hymn Sing. Please bring your requests to our program and Gini will accompany us in a verse of two of your selections. I suspect we all have many favorites – I certainly do so come prepared to sing with gusto. The twist is that the hymns must come from the 1982 Hymnal – a treasure trove of great hymns. Come for dinner at 5:30, knowing that the program itself will begin at 6:15. We conclude, as always, at 7:00 PM. Coming up on the schedule is a program on Campus Ministry (October 4) and an October Fest (October 11).
Our Stewardship chairman, Jeff Caputo, will be leading us in reflecting about Christian Stewardship over the next few weeks, leading to Ingathering Sunday on November 12. The budget for next year has not yet been proposed by the Vestry who will join with Fr. Roy in that endeavor as soon as they can. Obviously, this year is not the norm in terms of timing. Please be patient. But do be thinking about your commitment for 2018. And check out the reflections that will appear from time to time in News on the Net.
Volunteers are needed to help remove debris in the Keys - perhaps the next weekend or two. If you could help please get in touch with Bonnie Weaver at email@example.com and she'll connect you with the local parishes. There are still road blocks in place, so coordination is critical. There are two church buildings with parish halls where folks could sleep in air conditioning though they'd need to bring sleeping bags and all their own supplies.
Progress continues on the new A/C system in the church. We are still hopeful of beating our original schedule of the end of November. We trust that no more storms will throw us a curve! In the meantime, we are coming to appreciate our worship space in the gym and the intimacy it provides. Help us by not smoking near the parish hall entrances – the smoke gets into the sacred space now very easily, by moving to the seats nearest the altar, and placing books back on the chairs as we leave.
I am frequently asked what I’ll be doing after October 15th. Do I have a trip lined up? Will we stay at home and just chill out? Will I work on projects I have been putting off? Am I eager to be away from the responsibility of being Rector? The answer is “Yes and No”. I truthfully don’t know at this point. What I do know is that I will be on vacation for a time (to be defined as we move forward), and I am excited that we have called a great Rector who I respect and look forward to working with.
I am eager to be with you this Sunday, and Wednesday, if you can make it!
We are so proud of our parish and we want to make sure that you have the information you need so that you can fully participate in our worship and activities. We will endeavor to keep information as current as possible, and encourage you to join us in our mission "to know Christ and to make Him known." Please let us know what we can do to better serve you and witness to the love of God.
