From the Rector
In Earnest 8.2.17
As I shared last week, and then again, this past Sunday, we are entering a critical phase in our search for a new Rector. Please keep our Vestry in your prayers. I cannot predict when an announcement will be made, but I feel that it will be soon. It would not be helpful to talk about specific candidates at this point. But do pray for this process and know that you will be informed as soon as we are able to do so. Any call must be approved by the bishop before a call is extended.
You may have noticed that D. G. Myer, our A/C contractor, has begun demolition of some old equipment and will begin soon installing some of the piping and electrical service needed for our new air conditioning and heating system. We still estimate that we will need to vacate the church for several months starting in September. Personally, I’d love to move that date up if possible, but time will tell.
I am conscious of the fact that there is a kind of lull descending over us now. Some of this is the normal ebb and flow of the summer. Many are away, and some of the quiet is in anticipation of the call of a new Rector. This past Sunday was the lowest attendance in church, I think since I have been here. That concerns and disturbs me. I know it is what it is but I don’t have to like it. We need you!
Thanks to Joy Feulner for filling in as our organist while Gini Koepkey has been away on vacation. It is wonderful that we can count on someone so talented and energetic as a substitute. Thank you Joy!
This coming Sunday the church celebrates the feast of the Transfiguration. I love the festival and especially love to connect it with our fantastic stained-glass window (see picture at the end of this email). Sometimes I look out on Sunday morning (especially early in the morning) and am nearly blinded by the light streaming from the white figure of Jesus. I wonder if that was the experience of that small band of disciples? I look forward to exploring that experience with you this Sunday.
We are so proud of our parish and we want to make sure that you have the information you need so that you can fully participate in our worship and activities. We will endeavor to keep information as current as possible, and encourage you to join us in our mission "to know Christ and to make Him known." Please let us know what we can do to better serve you and witness to the love of God.
